When “Jurassic World” first took shape, the film’s premise underwent quite a transformation. Originally, the lead character wasn’t Owen, played by Chris Pratt, but a guy named Vance.
The story began with Vance and a pack of raptors on a military raid of a drug dealer’s compound in Colombia. Quite a different approach, right?
In the original script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, there was a character named Whitney, the manager of the park’s corporate side. Whitney was set up as an antagonist to the hero, putting up red tape and representing the corporate interests of the park. But, little did anyone know, she was about to take a remarkable turn.
The Revelation in ‘Jurassic World’
When Colin Trevorrow, the director, read the script, he couldn’t help but see the potential in Whitney’s character. He saw more than just a corporate representative; he saw a compelling character arc waiting to unfold.
“To take a character who had lost her compass like that and bring her back to the wonder and respect for these creatures felt like a real journey,”
Trevorrow explained.
“We thought her love of dinosaurs would likely have driven her to this job in the first place–she just had to find it again.”
And so, the once villainous Claire, as she was now named, went through a metamorphosis. Bryce Dallas Howard brought Claire to life as a woman who started out as someone merely seeing dinosaurs as business assets. But as the story progressed, she began rediscovering her passion for these magnificent creatures.
In “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” we see the impact of the events in Jurassic World on Claire. She started an organization aimed at rescuing dinosaurs from an island threatened by a volcanic eruption. This act of redemption and care showcased her evolution from a corporate stooge to a compassionate protector.
