On Monday, August 13, 2018, in Painesville, Ohio, Kayleigh Hustosky took her own life after shooting her husband, Dylan Hustosky. Dylan was off-duty and a police officer in Gates Mills was shot in the arm by her wife before she committed suicide.
What happened to Dylan Hustosky?
The Painesville Police reported that Kayleigh Hustosky shot her husband in the left arm two times at their home in Painesville, Ohio. At a press conference, Police Chief Daniel Waterman provided details of the incident, which left the Painesville community in shock.
He claims that the Police arrived at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018, in response to a 911 call made by Dylan Hustosky. He informed them that his wife had shot him through the door.
He also mentioned that the Police had never been contacted before regarding any domestic violence incidents at their residence. There were no previous reports of trouble between them, and the Police had no record of them in their database.
At their residence on Cedarbrook Drive, the man’s spouse fired two shots into his left arm. This occurred during their two-and-a-half-year marriage.
According to Chief Greg Minichello of Gates Mills, Daylan, who was 27 at the time, had been a part of the patrol team and had been affiliated with the police department since 2014. He had proven to be a committed officer and the department had no concerns during his four-year tenure.
Dylan, who was hurt, fled from his residence to preserve his well-being. He was discovered near the entryway of Heritage Middle School, just opposite his residence.
The authorities contacted the emergency team, who transported him to Concord Township’s TriPoint Medical Center. Eventually, he was transferred to MetraHealth Medical Center where he underwent a surgical procedure for his wounds.
What happened to Kayleigh Hustosky?
At the time of the incident, the investigator conveyed that 29-year-old Kayleigh Hustosky declined to work with the Police or exit the residence. Painesville police requested the assistance of Lake County SWAT.
To peacefully resolve the situation, the SWAT team utilized a robot and drones to enter the residence and establish communication with Kayleigh, urging her to surrender. Despite searching the premises with the drones, no signs of activity were detected. Eventually, at 7:42 p.m., she was located upstairs with a single gunshot wound.
Based on the preliminary report by Dr. Kumar from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the gunshot injury sustained by Kayleigh Hustosky was in line with a suicide. Her remains were sent for a post-mortem examination, and a thorough investigation would follow upon receipt of the final report.
At the time of the event, Dylan and Kayleigh, who had a three-year-old son and a dog, were apart. The child was with a family member in Stow, while the dog remained at their home and was unharmed during the shooting. Eventually, the dog was given to Kayleigh’s mother.
According to officials, the shooting did not involve Dylan’s service weapon. It remains unknown what type of firearm was used in the event, and there has been no disclosure of any potential reasons for the act.
After sustaining serious injuries, Daylan Hustosky made a complete comeback. Tragically, Kayleigh Hustosky did not survive the shocking event that rocked Painesville. The community grieved the loss of their beloved member.
