The San Antonio Spurs’ guard Keldon Johnson is up for trade this summer. Even though teams tend to keep their star player, what if they fail to perform? Or if they fail to stay fit? Fortunately, just like everything, there are alternatives for the star.
Dillon Brooks joined the Rockets in free agency this offseason. He was signed by Grizzlies earlier to fix their roster but the player struggled with his game when he managed to stay on the floor and on other occasions, he was not there at all. So, in all, they are trying to replace him. The Spurs’ Johnson is on their radar. Here is all the information you need about the trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs involving Keldon Johnson.
What would the Grizzlies offer for Keldon Johnson?
The Grizzlies are expected to offer Steven Adams, Ziaire Williams, Jake LaRavia, and one first-round pick each from the years 2025 and 2026 in exchange for Keldon Johnson. Even though things did not go well with Ja Morant due to his off-the-floor behavior and he is serving suspension right now, the Grizzlies see their future in him.
The Trade Proposal
San Antonio Spurs Receive: C Steven Adams, G/F Ziare Williams, F Jake LaRavia, 2025 First-Round Pick (MEM), 2026 First-Round Pick (Swap – MEM)
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G/F Keldon Johnson

Why would the Spurs let Keldon Johnson go?
One reason to do this deal is the return they are getting. Steven Adams can be paired with Victor, and he can manage the physicality for him. He can be their immediate fix and would strengthen the roster. But would the Grizzlies give away Steven Adams for real? Williams and LaRavia are two promising players they would get along with a few draft picks.
In the last fifteen seasons, only two Spurs’ rookies have scored 20 PTS while going 100% from three in a single game:

Why would the Grizzlies like to sign Keldon Johnson?
First of all, they are finding an alternative for Brooks. Is it easy to replace him? No, Brooks is one of the best of the lot, but Johnson can do what he does. The Grizzlies would become reckless if they managed to get him on the roster. Should the Grizzlies care more about the championship aspirations than the draft capital?
Will the Grizzlies give up on their stars to land Johnson? Are the Spurs ready to bid Johnson farewell? We’ll keep you updated.
