According to the Transportation Cabinet of Kentucky, they have been testing the new cards. This is to check whether it meets the federal standards or not.
Initially, the licenses were supposed to come out in January. However, the date of release was then pushed. The release was supposed to happen in April. However, now it has again been pushed back. Moreover, this time there isn’t a confirmed date.
However, it must be available by the end of summer. This is according to the authorities. Moreover, the availability will be made statewide.
Reasons for delay
According to the officials, this delay is because of internal testing. The testing has revealed certain gaps. And these gaps have to be taken into consideration.
According to the Commissioner of the Department of Vehicle Regulation, the internal testing met its aim. It reveals the gap that requires addressing. Moreover, this has to be done before the rollout.
Commissioner, Matt Henderson further says that the department is really pleased with the results.
Consequences of failure to roll out
As of now, one can continue to fly. However, if your driver’s license or other ID is about to expire, then you cannot.
However, the scenario will not be the same after October 2020.
The rollout has to happen before October 2020. Kentucky has to comply with the federal standards by then.
Failing to do so will not be good for its citizens. This is because they will then be unable to fly to a military area. Moreover, they cannot even enter one. They would then need another form of identification for this.
