Lasse Wellander, who has been a part of the band ABBA for a long time as a long-time guitarist, sadly passed away at the age of 70.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Swedish musician played on some of the biggest hits by the well-known pop group.
Lasse Wellander also worked on their most recent album, Voyage, which came out in 2021.
On Sunday, Lasse Wellander’s family put out a statement that said:
It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep.
Lasse recently fell ill with what turned out to be cancer that had spread, and early on Good Friday he passed away surrounded by his loved ones.
It concluded:
We love and miss you so much.
Lasse Wellander started playing guitar when he was young and joined bands near his home in Nora, Sweden.
In October 1974, he began recording with Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who were known for their hits “Intermezzo No. 1” and “Crazy World.”
The pop group’s guitarist played on 24 of their songs and on all eight of their albums.
In 1975, 1977, 1979, and 1980, he went on tour with music stars and played for sold-out crowds.
When ABBA broke up for the first time in 1982, he went on to work with other Swedish artists.
In 2008, he was asked to help with the soundtrack for the movie Mamma Mia!, which starred Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.
Lasse Wellander released his first solo album in 1981. In the years after that, he produced and released 11 more albums.
His last album came out in 2006. The title of the album translates as “simple ticket” in English.
Last year, he also released the singles “O Come, All Ye Faithfull,” “Merry-Go-Round,” and “Overdrive.”
In 2021, he helped make “Voyage,” the most recent album by ABBA.
The album had ten new songs from the iconic Pop group, which made fans happy.
