Instagram’s troubles are not going to end soon. The social media giant has been in a lot of controversy over its policy on user security and privacy.

Facebook has confirmed that the Instagram account hack has affected millions of users instead of previously thought thousands.
The Instagram account hack came to light when Facebook about a bug due to which user passwords for stored in plain text. The bug was dated back to 2012. The company confirmed that around a hundred thousand Instagram accounts were vulnerable.
The further clarified that the passwords were unknowingly stored in logs and were only accessible to 2000 engineers. The data was not leaked outside and there is no sign of internal exploitation.
But the company changed its stance now on the Instagram Account hack suggesting that numbers could very well be in millions. When TechCrunch tried to reach to the spokesperson they did not confirm the exact number of affected users.
This is not the first time Facebook has compromised user security, a recent technical glitch compromised more than 540 million user records of Facebook. And a recent report suggests that Mark Zuckerberg shared the user data to his personal friend.
What should you do?
Facebook has clearly mentioned that they will warn all the affected users. However, if you are not sure then you can change the password of your Instagram Account.
Log into your account by using the current password and then tap on settings.
- Tap on your profile and tap on 3 bars on the right.
- Tap on settings and navigate to Privacy and Security and then to password
- Enter the current password and the new password in the given fields.
- Tap on Save in the top right corner.
Try to use a number, characters and special symbols in the password or use a password generator for a strong password.
