LeBron James, the superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers, might undergo surgery this offseason due to a torn tendon in his right foot, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. James’ foot will be re-evaluated soon, and if surgery is required, it could keep him out of action for about two months.
LeBron James: I believed I could make it to the finish line…
The injury first occurred on February 26 during a regular-season game against the Dallas Mavericks. Cameras caught James saying, “I heard it pop” while on the court, and he ended up missing the Lakers’ next 13 games as a result.
On March 26, James made a courageous return, defying the advice of multiple doctors who suggested season-ending surgery. Instead, he found someone who worked wonders with his foot and helped him get back on the court. From then on, he played in every single game, leading the Lakers to secure the No. 7 seed in the play-in tournament and ultimately reaching the Western Conference finals.
Despite his valiant efforts, the Lakers faced a tough sweep by the Denver Nuggets. After Game 4, James candidly admitted that the injury affected his performance, and he mentioned getting an MRI on his foot to decide on the next steps.

“I believed I could make it to the finish line,” James shared in an interview with ESPN. “Though I had to deal with the pain and limitations, I never doubted that I could push through.”
He added, “I’ll get an MRI and see how the tendon has healed or not. We’ll take it from there. Let’s see what happens.”
Looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, whether or not he opts for surgery, sources indicate that James is expected to be ready for training camp, unless LeBron James decides to retire. His recent contemplative remarks sparked speculation, but many close to him believe he’ll return for a remarkable 21st season.
Shams Charania, on The Pat McAfee Show, expressed confidence in James’ return, saying, “I don’t expect LeBron James to retire. I fully expect him to play next season. That’s the buzz I’ve been hearing.”
As fans, we hope to see LeBron James back on the court, doing what he does best – inspiring basketball greatness and lifting our spirits with his incredible skills.
