Android 9.0 Pie update is the latest version of Android around the block. It was announced in March 2018 and started rolling out from August 2018. LG is among the first few firms to ensure that their top-tier smartphones get the Android Pie update. In this article, we take a closer look at LG Android Pie update schedule – and at the LG smartphones which are getting the Android 9.0 Pie Update.
LG and Google have quite a history of collaborations in the past. However, when the Android Pie update preview version was being launched in March 2018, LG did not participate. Let us take a closer look at LG’s plans for an Android 9 update, as well as the phones which are confirmed to get the LG Android Pie update.
LG Android Pie Update Plans
The LG G7 (also known as LG G7 ThinQ) smartphone came out in May 2018. The LG G7 ThinQ is the flagship LG smartphone and two other variants were released later in the year: LG G7 One and LG G7 Fit.
The first LG phone to get the Android 9 update was the LG G7 One. This is LG’s Android One smartphone – and got the Android 9.0 Pie OS update in November 2018. Next in line is the LG G7 ThinQ smartphone. The LG Android Pie update is already rolling out for LG G7 ThinQ users in Korea. More nations are likely to get this update soon.
Interestingly, the third G7 smartphone, LG G7 Fit, is unlikely to get the LG Android Pie update. The LG G7 Fit is actually just a rebranded LG Q9. Let us now take a closer look at some other LG smartphones which are likely to get the Android 9.0 update soon:
List of LG Phones Which Will Get Android 9.0 Pie Update
While there is no official list which indicates which of the LG smartphones are going to get the Android Pie update, one can assume that the most of LG’s recent mid to high-end smartphones are likely to get the Android 9.0 upgrade.
These smartphones include:
- LG G7 ThinQ (already getting the update in Korea)
- LG G7 One (update out in November 2018)
- LG V30
- LG V35
- LG V40
- LG V20
- LG G6
- LG Q7
- LG Q8
- LG K30
- LG Q Stylus
However, one must keep in mind that this is just a tentative list that we have assumed. There is no official list from the company pointing out the devices which will get the LG Android Pie update. This list consists of smartphones released recently by LG, as well as certain smartphones which were their flagship devices over the past years.
In the past, we have seen the likes of Samsung and Apple release updates for their older devices. Hence, it is safe to assume that even certain older phones may get the update. However, names might be added or subtracted from this list as and when LG makes an announcement. Keep following this post for regular updates.
Android Pie Update Release Date for LG Smartphones
LG, like most other popular smartphone brands, has already begun with the updates. However, there are no fixed dates as to when the updates will be rolling out. What one can safely assume is that the LG Android Pie update for all G7 smartphones will certainly roll out in Q1 2019.
Smartphone firms usually take a priority-based approach. The LG G7 and the LG V40 are LG’s high priority smartphones based on recency of release. Older LG G-series and V-series devices should be next on the list. Lastly, LG is likely to roll out the updates for their Q-series smartphones sometime in Q2 2019.
