In a friendly match held this morning against Venezuela, the Argentine icon Lionel Messi suffered a groin injury. Following the incident, Lionel Messi had to withdraw from the Tuesday match scheduled against Morocco.
Argentina suffered from severe bad luck today. Not only did they lose the match in the last 15 minutes, but there was more to cope with after the final whistle.
Lionel Messi Injured, Will Miss Argentina vs Morocco
Barcelona issued a statement confirming their star player suffered flare-up of an existing pubic injury. “While he featured from start to finish, a problem with his pubis means that Lionel Messi will not play in the second friendly match of the international break,” said a spokesperson for the club.
The club faces several crucial matches next month, with the quarter-final against Manchester United scheduled on April 10 and matches against Espanyol, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid scheduled soon after.
Ernesto Valverde would be desperate for Messi to be in top form ahead of the trip since Luis Suarez is also on the sidelines after his ankle injury. Suarez had to withdraw from the Uruguayan national team squad following his injury.
However, the club is hopeful Suarez will be back in time to face Manchester United. On Monday, the club released a statement that said, ‘He will be out for 10-15 days and now undertake his recovery with the FC Barcelona medical team.’
