Fans of Love Island have been wondering for years why there is no episode of Love Island released on Saturdays. The show is aired on ITV every day except Saturdays when the channel releases Unseen Bits which focuses on scenes that were previously not aired throughout the week.
Former Love Islander speaks out
2017 Love Island winner Kem Cetinay has finally revealed why the channel refuses to show any new footage on Saturdays. Kem appeared on This Morning for an interview and shared quite a lot of information about her time at the show.
She said that the contestants of the reality show have to leave the villa on Saturday so that it can be cleaned. She also added that the cleaners only get one day in a week to take care of the cleanliness and hygiene in the mansion.
Kem added that during this time the contestants tend to take their mics off and head over to the beach to hang out casually.
The hosts of the show, Holly and Phil, were quite shocked by the revelation and asked Kem if she was joking. Kem revealed that it is, in fact, true and that not a lot of people are aware of this situation.
What happens on Saturdays?
When asked if couplings can happen during this time, Kem revealed that producers forbid the contestants from talking about the show during this time. She said that most Love Islanders talk about their home life or other things.
She said,
“What happens is, when you take your mics off, you’re not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show, or the couples, Kem revealed. “You’ve got to talk about home life… you’re being watched like a hawk – the producers – because they don’t want you to talk about what’s going on.”
Kem further added,
“You can all, sit and chat, but they are quite careful with what you talk about. Because they want everyone at home to see, and get it on video. But at the same time, it’s their day to clean the villa, get everything done, and give you a day off. It’s your time to relax.”
