While the release date of Madame Web is approaching, making Marvel fans excited, Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and SJ Clarkson share their experience with the film. The movie is set in the early 1990s and has a standalone story. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director and her actor shared their experiences and vision about Madame Web.
Madame Web: Dakota Johnson Explored A New Side Of Hers While Filming The Upcoming Marvel Movie
Dakota Johnson is known for her notable roles in How to Be Single, Suspiria, and The Lost Daughter, apart from her infamous erotic romantic drama Fifty Shades Of Gray. Dakota Johnson is now ready to explore a different aspect of her career, which required her to perform a range of daring stunts and act on a blue screen for the first time!
“I got to do a day of stunt driving work, and I’m really good at it, it seems! I mean, I can do some really wild things with a car. I drove an ambulance. I drove a taxicab. I drove everything in the movie — except for flying through the air and out of a building. But other than that, I’m like, ‘Watch out, Tom Cruise!!'”
Initially, Dakota Johnson was skeptical about Madame Web, but the moment she got the script, she was glued to it. Cassandra Webb, a mind reader in the film, seems like one of Dakota Johnson’s dream roles as she is now willing to explore superhero characters.
“I got sent this script, and I was like, ‘I don’t know about me being a superhero. I was sort of mystified by her powers. Oh, I really would love to see that superhero. I would love to see a young woman whose superpower is her mind.”
Dakota Johnson had to act on blue screens for Madame Web, and as this was her first superhero film, she had no idea what the end effect would be. She was nervous about her performance and concerned if she had done it right or otherwise!
“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!”

Madame Web: Sydney Sweeney Shares Her Experience Of Gearing Up With The Spiderwoman Suit For The First Time On The Set
Sydney Sweeney is known for her notable roles in Clementine, Big Time Adolescence, Sharp Objects, Nocturne, and many more, apart from Euphoria. Madame Web is the first superhero movie experience for Sydney as well, and she shared some interesting insights about her character. Sydney Sweeney will be playing the role of Julia Cornwall/ Spiderwoman, set in New York City.
In a recent interview with Hot Ones’ Sean Evans, Sydney discussed how she felt donning Spiderwoman’s outfit for the first time. She disclosed that she was already in Boston when she was called for measurements. She was thrilled with the process and the subsequent sketches; she felt like a superhero.
I was in Boston already…we filmed in Boston… and we had this really cool scan done of our body, so they could get a full 3D measurement of us, and they showed us sketches. I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s so cool. It had like full 3D sketches of our faces, and when I put it on, I truly felt like a superhero. It was the coolest thing ever.
Madame Web: SJ Clarkson Reveals Her Vision About The Upcoming Marvel Movie
Director SJ Clarkson disclosed that Madame Web will be a standalone movie, set in the early 1990s. SJ Clarkson was super proud of her actors and acknowledged the hard work that they put in on the set. In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarkson having her fair share in the super movies, directing Jessica Jones and The Defenders, shared her experience with working with her actors. It is unlikely that characters from Venom or Morbius will appear in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, though it is possible through a post-credit sequence.
“She’s definitely in a standalone world. I was able to just have free rein and let the movie be what it needed to be, as opposed to trying to force it into something else. That was a gift, in a way, to be able to take something and bring a fresh and I hope original take to it.”
Madame Web will be released at your nearby theatres on February 14, 2024.
