Kate McCann, the mother of missing UK girl Madeleine McCann, had disclosed the statement she saw scrawled in the reservation book at the restaurant where her daughter was dining when she went missing.
As the search for Madeleine McCann continues, her story has touched the hearts of people worldwide.
Madeleine, a three-year-old girl, was on a family vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
Madeleine vanished from her bed in a vacation apartment on the evening of May 3rd, when her parents, Kate, and Gerry McCann, were dining with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant.
She was never discovered.
The sorrowful story has subsequently gone viral on social media after a 21-year-old Polish lady named Julia Wandelt expressed her belief that she could be the missing British child.
Despite her apparent similarity in appearance, DNA tests have revealed that Wandelt has no British ancestors.
However, the announcement has only heightened public interest in the case.
Those interested in the story can find a wealth of information, including Netflix’s 2019 documentary The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Kate McCann has previously spoken out about their daughter’s abduction in her book Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Abduction and the Ongoing Search for Her.
One revelation from the 2011 book that has since surfaced is what the mother claims she saw in the open reservation book from the tapas restaurant where she had been dining on the night of Maddie’s abduction.
In the book, she said that she and her group had ordered the same table in the tapas restaurant each night, notifying the restaurant that they required a table with the greatest view of the apartments. This was due to the fact that the children in the party were all asleep in their hotel apartments when they went out to lunch.
On the other hand, the mother says that “to her horror,” that information was put in the reservation book, implying that anyone who read it would have known the children were unaccompanied at the time of McCann’s reservation.
“To my horror, I saw that, no doubt in all innocence and simply to explain why she was bending the rules a bit, the receptionist had added the reason for our request: we wanted to eat close to our apartments as we were leaving our young children alone there and checking on them intermittently,” Kate McCann wrote at the time.
The information was “the stuff of nightmares” for the family, according to author Robbyn Swan, who co-wrote the 2014 book Looking for Madeleine and was featured in Netflix’s documentary.
Madeleine McCann
As of this writing, the top suspect in the case of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance remains 45-year-old Christian Brueckner.
According to BBC News, Brueckner was living in the region out of a camper van at the time of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance. According to experts, Brueckner’s phone placed him within a 30-minute timeframe of McCann’s vacation resort.
Brueckner has denied any role in the child’s disappearance and has not been charged in connection with McCann’s disappearance.
