In a series of Maine mass shootings that occurred in Lewiston, Maine on October 25, at least 22 people lost their lives and 50 to 60 others were injured. Maine Mass Shooting Updates
“There is an active shooter in Lewiston,”
Maine state police said on the social media platform X.
“We ask people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked. Law enforcement is currently investigating at multiple locations.”
In an effort to get help, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office posted two images of the suspect on Facebook. The pictures display a bearded man with a rifle in the firing position, wearing jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. According to the commissioner of public safety, hundreds of police officers were looking for Robert Card at the shooting scene in Lewiston, Maine. It is believed that he is responsible for Maine mass shootings.
Law enforcement sources briefed on the situation and said that there have also been reports of gunfire at other locations, including a local pub. According to a nurse at Maine Medical Centre, the shooting happened at a bowling alley on a youth night. According to Lewiston Police, they were called to two locations: Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees restaurant.
It looks like the two locations are four miles (6.5 km) apart, or ten minutes away by car. The Maine Department of Public Safety commissioner, Michael Sauschuck, reported that there had been “multiple casualties” from the shooting, which started at 18:56 local time (22:56 GMT).
“Maine Medical is on lockdown right now awaiting Lewiston patients,” the nurse said. “They just called for [emergency department] nurses and critical care nurses to come in, and set up three stretchers to each single critical care bay. They just got their first two patients — both gunshot wounds to their thighs.”
In response to a “mass casualty, mass shooter event,” the Central Maine Medical Centre said it was working with nearby hospitals to coordinate the treatment of the injured.
Schools in the district will be closed on Thursday, according to Lewiston Public Schools Superintendent Jake Langlais.
