Who is Malachi Ross?
As a Grandview High School alumnus, Malachi Ross is a member of the football team and has no trouble making friends. His academic success can be attributed to his father Micah, who ensures he stays on track. In most respects, he is just your average high school student.
The most remarkable aspect of Malachi’s life is his position as the number one 15-year-old boxer in the 145-pound weight category in the United States. In December, he achieved this title by emerging victorious at the 2021 USA Boxing National Championships held in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Malachi Ross has achieved a national championship victory before. Back in 2018, at the age of 12, he emerged as the winner of the USA National Junior Olympic championship.
During the tournament, his most challenging battle was the first one, where the judges ultimately declared Malachi the winner by a split decision. He then proceeded to triumph in his next two rounds, both of which were decided unanimously, securing his place as the national champion.
His father said,
“He wanted this one bad, so we trained hard. You know, there were kids from all over the country, everywhere. They come in these big teams with all these sweat suits and me and Malachi just walked in there, just me and him, straight out of Grandview, and wiped them all out.”
Malachi Ross hails from a lineage of boxers, with his uncle and grandfather being amateur fighters. Growing up, he has always been a passionate follower of the sport.
At the tender age of four, Micah took Malachi under his wing and taught him the techniques of hitting pads and mitts. Right from the start, Malachi showed a natural talent and developed a strong liking for boxing.
When Malachi was 8 years old, he participated in his inaugural boxing match and emerged victorious. After witnessing this, Micah recognized Malachi’s true potential. However, in the initial years of his competitions, Malachi mostly secured the second place position instead of the first.
Malachi Ross, despite his young age, was determined to break through and emerge victorious in a tournament, leading him to dedicate himself to training and enhancing his abilities. This determination paid off as his practice translated into success in the ring, resulting in a continuous collection of trophies for Malachi Ross.
