We all have our own interests, but how much are we willing to let them affect our lives? Instead of just spending extra money on his hobby, one person built his whole life around it. yes, a home on pond.
In Oklahoma, a single person decided to build his home in a way that was based on his hobby.
Paul Phillips is from the Skiatook area and has been working as a contractor for many years, building many homes.
While building homes for other people, he realized that he could also build his dream home, which would let him do his hobby whenever he wanted.
What kind of leisure activity would make someone want to do something like this? Fishing is the answer.
Paul’s favorite body of water is Lake Oologah, where he would often go to the same spot and spend hours doing one of his favorite things. He was told that he could no longer fish at that spot, which was a shame.
One of these days I’ll have a place of my own and nobody can tell me I can’t fish there,
he said.
He bought a piece of land, rented a backhoe, and dug a private pond because of what he had always believed.
After buying his own pond, he hired a contractor to help him build his house.
The house was about 1,850 square feet and had three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a large living room with a special feature.
In the living room, there was a large hole in the floor that could be opened.
The four-by-four hole was close to the fireplace, so he could drop a fishing line into the pond without leaving the comfort of his home.
His neighbors were amazed by how hard he worked.
The lady next door, she loves to fish and this lady here, she can’t wait ’til spring to get here so she can hear the frogs a hollerin’,
he said.
The carpenter Mr. Phillips hired said he had never done anything like this before, but he enjoyed it. In addition to the living room, the back of the house has a deck where he and his friends can fish together or just hang out.
Paul has big plans for his home on pond.
For the determined man, this hard project is just the beginning. He plans to sell his current house in the future and move up to a bigger one with a bigger pond where he can keep even bigger fish.
From Paul’s experience, we can definitely learn something!
If you can’t reach your goals in life, build them up, just like Paul did. He did what he thought was right and built a house that he really cares about. He could be in his living room with a fishing line in the water right now.
Considering how beautiful this home already is, it’s hard to imagine how beautiful Paul’s future home will be. We hope you have a great time fishing, Paul!
