As dog lovers, we all know how hard it is to lose a dog. But losing a pet without being able to say goodbye is much worse.
We can post about lost pets on social media, which is a big help.
But what happens if your pet gets lost on a mountain?
In this case, that’s what happened.
The Goetelen family went through this.
One Saturday morning, they took their two dogs hiking in the Wicklow mountains.
Then, they lost their dogs.
Harley, a German Shepherd who was 3 years old, and Naoise, an 8-year-old Golden Retriever, were suddenly nowhere to be found.
After a day of looking, they found Harley in a parking lot, but they couldn’t find Naoise anywhere.
Her owners thought the worst would happen.
Britannica says that the Wicklow Mountains are a large mountain range in County Wicklow, Ireland. They are part of the Leinster Chain.
The mountain area is made up of a large anticline, with exposed granite in the middle and slates and sandstones on the sides.
They are frozen over in the winter.
The Goetelen family thought that Naoise was already gone because of how the mountains looked at the time.
Then, heroes who looked like hikers showed up.
But two doctors who like to hike, Jean-Francois Bonnet and Ciara Nolan, saw something in a rock.
They were almost at the top of the mountain when they saw a dog that looked weak and cold.
The dog could neither walk nor bark.
It was Naoise.
Jean and Ciara used their skills as doctors to wrap Naoise in clothes and keep her safe.
They fed Naoise something to eat.
Then they took her down the mountain.
In the story published by Irish Time, Ciara tied Naoise to Jean’s backpack with a scarf.
They kept going with the dog on their backs.
Naoise was carried over 6 miles down the mountain, which took them four to five hours.
They took the dog back to their house, fed and warmed it up, and then called a local animal rescue group, which found the dog’s owners.
Naoise is finally home.
Ciara called the Goetelens to let them know the good news.
At first, they couldn’t believe that Naoise had made it out of the icy mountain alive, but when they did, they were glad to see her.
After two weeks of hard things, Naoise couldn’t hold back her happiness when she saw her family again.
Over 430K people have watched the moving video on YouTube. The story amazed the people who heard it. One person said that the two of them are real heroes.
