People have called a man’s way of keeping people from walking on his lawn “cruel.”
Sure, it can be annoying when a kid runs through your garden to get their ball or when a mailman cuts through your yard to get to the mailbox.
But most people can deal with a slight problem like this without taking steps to stop it.
Well, one man’s explanation on social media about keeping people out of his garden has made people angry.
Thomas Lyons, who uses the handle @tgunz81 on TikTok, put up a video of people walking on his grass.
But every time someone did, a sprinkler went off and soaked them as a punishment for breaking the rules.
In a second post, the TikToker says that when the sprinkler goes off, so does an alarm that tells people not to walk on his grass.
The first video Lyons posted has been watched almost 40 million times, and two other videos have gotten another 3.6 million views.
People have different opinions about the unique and, let’s face it, a pretty difficult way to stop people from trespassing.
Some people say he’s “mean,” while others say he has the right to do what he wants with his own property.
One person writes:
You’re all mad for no reason. This is their yard. Walking on it can kill the grass and there are sidewalks for a reason.
Another user commented disagreeing:
Cutting across grass has saved me from missing my bus many times.
People cut because it is always faster and even 30 seconds can make a difference.
A third viewer says:
I love this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn, so do as you wish.
While someone else writes:
It’s just kids walking home from school.
But many viewers are more upset by how “rude” it is for people to walk on his grass in the first place.
One person says:
I don’t understand. I was raised to never walk in someone’s yard, especially a stranger’s.
I have always felt like it was disrespectful to walk on people’s grass,
says a second.
Another adds:
I was raised to never walk on people’s lawns. How are these kids just casually doing that?
One person defended the TikToker saying,
The people saying ‘it’s just grass’ have never owned property and it shows.
