The need for Man of Steel 2, the sole solo Superman film starring Henry Cavill, has always existed. Just not from everyone in the DC Extended Universe’s top positions of authority. Is There a Man of Steel 2 Release Date?

Man of Steel 2 will unfortunately not be coming anytime soon. It seems like Cavill’s intent on returning to the role in October 2022 following his cameo appearance in Black Adam was short-lived since James Gunn and Peter Safan, the new DCU directors, have a different vision for the character that excludes Cavill. Cavill was left out of the upcoming Superman film by Gunn and Safran because he would have been too old for their version of Clark Kent and would instead play the hero as a young reporter just starting out in his superhero career. Man of Steel took around 5 years from conception to release Man of Steel 2 might not be released until 2027 as a result.

Henry Cavill as Superman would have been introduced if Man of Steel 2 had been made. Naturally, Amy Adams would have returned as Lois Lane, and other characters from Snyder’s DCEU films would have done the same, including Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. According to earlier rumours, the film would have been produced by Charles Roven, and Warner Bros. was looking for writers, with Christopher McQuarrie of Mission: Impossible being the top choice after working with Cavill on Fallout.

Man of Steel 2 currently does not have an established plot. Cavill commented in a 2017 interview with Collider: “I thought Man of Steel was a wonderful beginning story, an origin story to Superman. He had a lot of potential to expand from there and develop into the hero that we know and love. It was a Batman viewpoint story, so it didn’t really portray the qualities of Superman that I was eager to highlight in Batman v Superman, which took a hard turn in a darker direction. That was clearly emphasised further in the Justice League Snyder Cut. After the tragic events of the previous movie, if Man of Steel 2 ever happened, It will be a relatively straightforward Superman film and would undoubtedly focus on Superman’s kinder, more sympathetic side.
