A woman from Indiana who was pregnant had health problems that meant she had to have an emergency C-section. That was just the beginning of her difficult journey. She was in a coma for months, but her praying husband wouldn’t give up.
Autumn and Zack Carver couldn’t wait to meet their third child. When they were teenagers, they met and fell in love. But they had no idea that 2021 would bring a painful new chapter.
Autumn was eight months along when she and Zack got sick. The loving mother had to go to the hospital to give birth to her son, Huxley. The mom was in the ICU and fighting for her life, but the baby was healthy and happy.
The Worst Day of His Life
What was supposed to be one of the couple’s happiest days ended up being the opposite. Zack said that it was the worst day of his life.
Autumn’s main doctor didn’t think she would make it through what she was going through, and after two months of being on life support, he told Zack to turn off the machines and let Autumn die peacefully. But Zack wouldn’t give up hope that his wife would get better.
The experience was unforgettable for everyone and meant the world to the sickly mom. The special meeting was an answer to one of Zack’s prayers.
He prayed for her every second of every day, and he had a whole army of people praying for a miracle online. Even though they had no chance of living, they had faith.
The Husband’s Request
Zack couldn’t imagine a world without Autumn and said,
I don’t know life without her.
He was upset that his wife hadn’t been able to hold their new baby boy, so he asked the doctors to do something special.
He asked them to wake up Autumn from her sleep so she could see and hold Huxley. Zack knew it might be the first and last time she did this, so he pleaded with the medical team. They agreed, and the mom got to spend a special moment with her precious child that she would never forget.
The Memorable Meeting
Everyone will never forget what happened, but the sick mom will remember it the most. Zack’s prayer was answered by the special meeting. The proud father recalled:
Her parents, one of her best friends, and many nurses and doctors witnessed the special moment. I don’t know if there was a dry eye in the area. What an amazing day.
Autumn’s Slow Recovery Journey
The mother was still in trouble. The doctors suggested a lung transplant to help Autumn get better, but Zack wanted to hear from another expert first. He still thought that his wife would get better by some miracle.
The thoracic surgeon was glad to say that the mother didn’t need a transplant. The husband shared:
[The doctor] came in and said, ‘you don’t need a lung transplant. You’re going to be fine.’ It was super good news. We embraced in a hug and thanked God and the doctor.
Everyone was amazed when Autumn finally began to get better. Even though she was making slow progress, Zack knew she would be fine.
The Experience Changed Them
Autumn got the all-clear after three months and went home in December 2021. She transformed into a different person. Zack told his friends and family with great excitement:
Such a happy, emotional, overwhelming day. I had to step back many times and look at all the greatness. We surprised our daughters. I think they were in shock. Neither of them could talk or react.
Many people drove by the family’s house to show their support for the wife and mother’s bravery. The couple was moved to tears, and they thanked everyone for their love and prayers.
A Message from Autumn
The Carver family was still thankful for life, and Autumn said that her daughter told her she now believes in miracles. The mom also said:
Every day is a gift. Tell people you love them and give lots of hugs. It can just all change so quickly and you don’t want to leave anything unsaid.
Zack also said that he started praying with his kids every night, which he hadn’t done before. The miracle changed their lives forever, and they never took it for granted.
Zack and Autumn were amazed by all the good things that had happened to them. They hoped that telling their story would inspire others to show more love because life is short. We hope they and their family have many happy and healthy years together.
