A man has done something unusually that it left both the Internet and his ex-girlfriend in a shock.
Shaun Nyland took to TikTok to film his ex-girlfriend, Cat’s, reaction to the surprise.
My ex paid off my mortgage ? #foryou
Cat, who is the mother of his child and his ex-girlfriend, got the best surprise on her thirty-first birthday.
Why?
My ex boyfriend paid off my mortgage ? #foryou
Because she has been a great mother!
In the video posted to TikTok, which has more than 5 million views, Shaun films himself passing Cat a set of keys as she asks: “Why are you giving me these for?”
“It’s your birthday today, I want you to have the best birthday ever,” he said. “And look, I know we’re not together anymore, and I’ve been so proud of you, you’re the best mum ever, so I did something. I rang up the bank, I paid off the entire mortgage. This house now belongs to you.”
Cat didn’t believe Shaun at first… until he told her to check her emails.
“I promise you, this house belongs to you. I rang the bank, paid it off, you own this house.”
After posting the video online, comments came flooding in, with many people asking the same question… Why?
Well, Shaun gave an explanation in a separate video that his decision to pay the mortgage was not just for Cat, but also for their son who he thinks has been looked after by her so perfectly.
“At the end of the day, my ex-girlfriend gave me the best gift any man could ask for by bringing Leo into this world and I know it was tough for Cat to try and live the same lifestyle we lived but by herself,” he said.
“Honestly guys, I’m still shaking right now. I’m just so grateful that I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to do this, not just for Cat, but also for my baby so that he’s got a roof over his head for the rest of his life guaranteed, and I just think if you can do that then why wouldn’t you. It was a no-brainer for me.”
The two have been together for 7 years before they split earlier this year.
