Over the weekend, a man’s embarrassing marriage proposal took a turn when he attempted to do so at a Major League Baseball game.
The worst part was that he was brutally rejected by his girlfriend in front of hundreds of shocked onlookers, and she didn’t just say no; she also smacked him across the face.
The couple can be seen conversing in the stands at a Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox game in a video that has since gone viral on Twitter.
The man suddenly stops his girlfriend as they descend the stairs, gives her a kiss, and says to her: “I love you.”
His shocked girlfriend gasps in shock as she realizes he is about to propose as he slowly starts to kneel down.
People in the crowd start grabbing their cameras to record the moment as it is happening because it has caught their attention.
They watch in disbelief as the man takes out a black ring box and opens it to reveal a Ring Pop candy inside.
The young woman’s mood immediately changes when she sees the lollipop, and she slaps her boyfriend in the face.
“What the f*** is wrong with you,” she yells and throws her beverage at him.
Before her boyfriend can explain whether the proposal was sincere or a joke, the video ends before we learn whether or not they made it up.
Nevertheless, the video sparked discussion among viewers, who disagreed on whether the girl’s response was appropriate or whether she needed to learn to laugh at jokes.
Many believed the man had escaped harm if his girlfriend’s response was any indication. “She isn’t worth it man. Lol so aggressive. U got her though lol priceless [sic],” one commented.
Another person wrote that the man had the genuine ring in his back pocket and claimed: “He had the main ring in his pocket if she can’t get a joke she better not be with you.”
A third person thought it was actually quite romantic to be proposed to with a candy ring. “Here’s me literally wanting to be proposed to with a ring pop cause the actual ring can come later I think what he did was super cute,” they commented.
Others, however, made the observation that the girlfriend might have felt humiliated by the proposal. One wrote: “Any chance she thought it was a cruel joke to go viral and was embarrassed?”
“Humiliate the one you love in front of thousands?? [Should of] been a real diamond. Run girl! I woulda done the same. it’s called self-worth,” another commented.
“Good call queen,” added a third.
