Margot Robbie is a famous Australian actress known for her work in famed movies like Suicide Squad, The Legend of Tarzan etc. She began her career on television. But no one can deny that it was her role as Naomi Lapaglia in the 2013 movie, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ that changed the course of her career.
Margot Robbie was not keen to play a gold digger
Margot Robbie was initially quite apprehensive about this role. For any newcomer, the chance to work with a veteran actor like director Martin Scorsese would be the ticket to the jackpot. But Margot says she was focused more on the character. And when the script was read to her for the first time she was not happy with it. In an old interview, she mentioned
“In the first draft that I read it very much seemed like a transaction, and that’s why I didn’t like the character when I first read it. I was like, she’s a gold digger, very superficial and very transactionally. I thought it didn’t seem much deeper than that”
But soon, Margot Robbie understood that the character was way deeper than she had earlier thought. The toughest part for her was shooting intimate scenes with her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. This would be her first intimate scene on screen so she was left worried about how it would look on the big screen.
“I’d done scenes, where it’s leading into sex or sex, has just finished. But I hadn’t done a start-to-finish sex scene as I did in Wolf Of Wall Street. That was my first.”
Margot Robbie added that it was awkward to film such a scene in front of hundreds of people. With the cameras glaring all around it was tough to keep herself calm.
“Tons of people are watching you. It’s so awkward. It’s just like, this is what you need to do – get on with it. The sooner you do it, the sooner you can stop doing it.”
Margot Robbie took tequila shots before s*x scenes
Margot Robbie played the role of Naomi Lapaglia, Leo’s wife in The Wolf Of Wall Street. It was her debut movie and ended up making her an overnight star. Margot even had to take some shots to keep her confidence and courage high for filming the intimate scenes. She revealed this in an interview with Daily Mail.
“I’m not going to lie, I had a couple of shots of tequila before that scene because I was nervous…very, very nervous,”
Filming s*x scenes with Caprio was not the only tough part. She had to film a love scene over a huge pile of cash in one such scene. It sounds quite glamorous, but Margot mentioned how difficult it was.
“I got a million paper cuts on my back from all that money. It’s not as glamorous as it sounds… maybe real money is a bit softer, but fake money is like paper”
Margot Robbie is currently prepping for the Barbie movie to be released in July 2023. Margot plays the iconic doll, Barbie, which stars actor ,Ryan Gosling. The movie is currently being filmed in Los Angeles. For Margot Robbie, it is indeed an exciting time ahead as she awaits the release of the Barbie movie.
