Margot Robbie has already made a name for herself as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. And now it looks like she could feature as another superhero, this time in a Marvel film.
Robbie is in demand
Robbie had an amazing 2022. The Australian actress first starred in Greta Gervig’s Barbie playing the titular character alongside Ryan Gosling who played Ken. She then starred as Nellie LaRoy in Babylon.
LaRoy is an aspiring actress and flapper girl that’s heavily inspired by the original ‘It Girl’ Clara Bow, with a hint of Joan Crawford. Both these roles made her a popular name in Hollywood, and it comes as no surprise that the MCU is now after her services.
The MCU has eluded Robbie
Across her career, Margot Robbie has taken on many roles; however, there is one role that has long eluded her: a role in a Marvel superhero film. It’s puzzling how Marvel has never managed to extend an offer to the Australian actress resulting in her joining the DC Extended Universe instead.
Robbie has been a staple in the DCEU for years, but with the franchise’s future shrouded in uncertainty, the rumor mill has begun turning with speculation growing over Robbie potentially jumping ship to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Margot Robbie could play Emma Frost
Social media is rife with speculation that Margot Robbie will play the role of the X-Men character, Emma Frost. Emma is one of the most famous characters in the X-Men world, and she has played the role of one of the primary adversaries of Charles Xavier. Her abilities include telepathy and transforming her body into an almost indestructible diamond, a combination which she has used to great effect against the X-Men. In the comics, she eventually begins to support the X-Men and even manages to become co-headmistress of Xavier’s School for Gifted Children.
Needless to say that the inclusion of the character would be a good step for the X-Men franchise, which is reportedly in the works at the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Robbie’s MCU Future is Uncertain
Unfortunately, Margot Robbie playing Emma Frost in the MCU isn’t confirmed yet. These are just rumors. She could even be cast in a different role altogether. And if she were to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she would join the group of celebrities who have worked for both DC and Marvel. It has also been reported that she wants to play the role of Blue Ivy in the DC Extended Universe.
Blue Ivy has only seen live-action movie appearances in the 1997’s Batman and Robin, played by Uma Thurman. A variation adaptation of the character also showed up in television’s Gotham.
Robbie said this to Variety about playing Ivy’s character,
“On the off chance that you read the comics, you will realize that Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy have an intimate relationship. In certain comics, they pass on it as a friendship; in different comics, you can see that they’re very indulged as a couple.”
She continued,
“I’ve been attempting to – I couldn’t imagine anything better than to have Poison Ivy tossed into the universe because the Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite parts of the comics, so I’m hoping to explore that relationship on screen.”
