The Australian actress has read many scripts where it required the actor to get naked for absolutely no rhyme or reason. That, to Robbie, is cause for turning down a role.
In an interview, Robbie explained how she approaches nudity in films. She said,
“There are scripts that I pick up and say, ‘There’s no reason why she’s getting her clothes off, that’s just stupid, it’s just nudity for the sake of nudity.’ That I do not agree with, ever,”
The actress further explained,
“But when the nudity is warranted, I totally agree with it, and don’t think there’s anything shameful in that. If it’s justified and the character would do it then it should be there.”

“It’s just different in this day and age too, because there’s the Internet. It was like, if I do this there will forever be YouTube clips of this, there will be slow-motion versions. It’s not just the repercussions on myself; my brothers have to deal with that, my grandparents have to deal with that. It’s not just something that affects me; it affects everyone around me. So it’s not something to be taken lightly. I obviously put a lot of thought into it.”

In January 2014, Robbie was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. During their chat, Robbie revealed that her family hadn’t seen the film back in Australia. She also admitted that she initially lied about being nude in the movie.
Robbie explained to Kimmel saying,
“[The nudity] was a small point of contention with the family. Ironically enough, I flat out lied to my family for a really long time. I said, ‘I don’t care what you hear; there is no nudity. I am not doing any nudity. Ignore everything anyone is saying. There is no nudity.’”
In time, Robbie realized her family would see her when the film came to Australia. When she noticed her error, Robbie convinced her family the crew used technology to create her NSFW scenes. She said,
“I thought, ‘well, the movie is going to come out, and they are going to see that there is nudity. So I changed that, and the lie evolved to ‘well actually there is a body double and they CGI’ed my head onto someone else.”
Robbie eventually came clean about her nudity in The Wolf of Wall Street.
