Margot Robbie is one of the finest actors in Hollywood today. With every appearance, the actress has achieved success and proved that acting was the right career move for her. Yet, life could have turned out differently for Robbie, as she revealed recently while promoting her latest film, Babylon. It turns out Robbie was approached by Hooters at just 16.
Margot Robbie was offered a job at Hooters
In a recent interview with New Music Express NME, Margot Robbie took the walk down memory lane and talked about how she once got offered a waitress job when she was just 16 at the popular eatery chain, Hooters.
The actress recalled that she was offered the job after featuring as a patron in an ad for the company at the time.
Robbie said,
“At the end of the day, they offered me a job, and I was like, ‘I think this is where my career is going, and I’m going to end up working at Hooters.”
The actress added that the restaurant franchise, which is famous for putting female employees in short and skimpy uniforms to serve its customers, did not pay her for the gig.
Robbie opens up about filming for Babylon
Margot Robbie also opened up about her role in “Babylon,” sharing that she advised Damien Chazelle, the film’s director to cut down on the amount of coke that her character was asked to ingest.
She pointed out it was “fun” and “overwhelming” to star in the film and even got to give some advice to the filmmaker about her character, Nellie LaRoy. She said,
“I think the only note I gave Damien… obviously there’s a lot of drugs in this movie, and I play a character who does tonnes of drugs. But he would have them rack up lines of coke that were just like the size of hotdogs.”
Robbie remembered advising Chazelle to reduce the amount of coke depicted on screen because viewers might find it hard to believe. She added,
“I was like, ‘Damien, she’d be dead. This is an OD situation. People are going to watch this movie and know that this is ridiculous.’”
Robbie’s Friends Complained About The Coke
It appears that Chazelle did not heed Robbie’s advice because the next statement she made was to point out that her friends who watched the premiere noticed the insane amount of coke. Robbie told NME,
“A couple of friends last night, that was the first thing they said. They were like, ‘It’s a bit ridiculous how much coke there was,’”
Robbie clarified that a substitute was used instead of coke in the flick, adding that the different substance did not stop the sniffing from making her uncomfortable later on. Robbie explained,
“It was either vitamin B powder or icing sugar, or baby laxative. Either way, it does hurt after a while.”
Robbie opens up about her work before acting
If Margot Robbie wasn’t sniffing icing sugar on movie sets, she’d probably be making sandwiches or waiting tables at Hooters back in Australia.
Before getting her first big break in Hollywood, Margot Robbie had many side gigs, which included making sandwiches for Subway and babysitting. During a conversation with Blush magazine, she shared her experience saying,
“The ultimate goal of my journey was to unpack my bags in Hollywood and stay there. But to do that, you had to earn a living. I worked in a surf shop for two years. I then worked as a babysitter and making sandwiches for Subway. What else? Oh yes, I worked in a grocery shop, then a pharmacy. Then I was a waitress and a cleaner,”
Robbie has certainly come a long way in her life and career. She has it in her to become a Hollywood superstar. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments. Also, make sure to follow hiptoro for the latest celebrity news and gossip.
