MediaTek has always been struggling with the issue of providing the slowest Android Updates. But recently, according to company’s CEO Rick Tsai, the company has made significant changes in their structure and has been working on the GMS Express Initiative to deliver faster updates.
The service of GMS Express was launched last year and is aimed at speeding up the process of providing certifications to the manufacturers. The certifications will be automated using the MediaTek chipsets, hence reducing the time consumed.

This initiative allowed the company to present the users with a pre-certified Android version which also had the Google Mobile Services installed in them. This eliminated the previously existing 3PL, which was required for Google certifications.
TL Lee, the GM of the company’s mobile business unit said that the traditional certification process took roughly 3 months. However, with the GMS Express, that time will be reduced to a couple of weeks.
