Who is Justine Wilson?
Jennifer Justine Musk, previously known as Justine Wilson, is a Canadian writer who was formerly married to Tesla Owner Elon Musk. She was born on September 2, 1972, in Peterborough, Ontario. Justine later attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, where she earned a degree in English literature.
Career
After college, Justine relocated to Japan, where she taught English as a second language (ESL). She eventually made California her permanent residence. In 2005, Roc Books, an imprint of Penguin Books, published Wilson’s contemporary fantasy novel BloodAngel.
In 2007, Wilson published her second book, Uninvited, which was aimed at young adults and had no connection to her previous work. The sequel to BloodAngel, titled Lord of Bones, was then released in 2008. Wilson was also an early adopter of using a platform like Pinterest to map out her novel.
During a 2007 interview, she mentioned Margaret Atwood, Joyce Carol Oates, Paul Theroux, George R.R. Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay, and Neil Gaiman as writers who influenced her work. She also characterized her novels as a blend of different genres.
Personal Life
In January 2000, Justine Wilson and Elon Musk were wed. Sadly, their firstborn passed away at just 10 weeks old due to SIDS. In 2004, she used in vitro fertilization to give birth to twins, followed by triplets in 2006. However, on September 13, 2008, she declared that she and Musk were separating. They continued to co-parent their children together.
Subsequently, Wilson penned an exposé for Marie Claire outlining her views on the detrimental aspects of the marriage, including Musk’s disregard for her professional goals, his assertion of dominance as the “alpha” in the union, and his insistence on her conforming to the role of a trophy wife.
Back in 2010, she referred to herself as a “perfect ex-wife” and expressed her amicable relationship with Musk’s previous spouse, Talulah Riley.
According to her, she chose to retain the surname Elon Musk for the benefit of their children. In 2022, one of their twins legally altered her name to Vivian to align with her gender identity and adopted Wilson as her last name, as she no longer wanted any connection to her father.
