Kim Raver is a well-known American actress recognized for her performances in various television series. She is particularly noted for her role as Dr. Teddy Altman in ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, as well as her characters Kim Zambrano in Third Watch and Audrey Raines in 24.
Early Life
Kimberly Jayne Raver was born on March 15, 1969, in New York City. She pursued her education at Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama.
Raver pursued her theater studies in New York under the guidance of her teacher and mentor, Wynn Handman.
Kim Raver’s Acting Career
Kim Raver began her career as a child star in 1975 when she made her debut on Sesame Street at the age of six, remaining with the show for three years. As her adult career took off, she initially featured in commercials for Visa and Jeep.
Her first significant role came in 1995 when she made her Broadway debut in Philip Barry’s play “Holiday,” where she shared the stage with Laura Linney and Tony Goldwyn.
Additionally, she appeared alongside Al Pacino in the film City Hall. Raver also co-starred with John Spencer and David Schwimmer in “The Glimmer Brothers,” a production at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, penned by Warren Leight.
Following her tenure on Third Watch, Kim Raver was cast as Audrey Raines in the television series 24, where she remained a series regular for two seasons.
In 2006, Raver appeared in the ABC series The Nine. Despite receiving exceptional critical acclaim, the show struggled with Nielsen ratings and was ultimately canceled.
She later returned to her role as Audrey Raines in the sixth season of 24, where the character was left in a catatonic state at the season’s conclusion.
Kim Raver also portrayed Nico Reilly, the editor-in-chief of Bonfire magazine, in NBC’s drama series Lipstick Jungle. This series, based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, aired for 20 episodes from February 2008 to January 2009.
Raver joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in Season 6, playing the role of Dr. Teddy Altman, a cardiothoracic surgeon recruited by Dr. Owen Hunt, with whom she had previously served in Iraq. In 2010, it was confirmed that Raver would be a series regular but then exited the show in 2012.
In 2014, Raver reprised her role as Audrey Boudreau (originally Heller, later Raines by marriage) in the twelve-episode series 24: Live Another Day.
The following year, she made a guest appearance in the premiere of the eleventh season of Bones. In 2017, Raver had a recurring role in the fifth season of Ray Donovan and returned as Dr. Teddy Altman on Grey’s Anatomy for its 14th season.
Additionally, she was cast in a recurring role as Dr. Andrea Frost in the second season of the ABC political drama Designated Survivor.
In May 2018, it was revealed that she would once again be a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy, starting with its 15th season.

Kim Raver has been married to Manuel Boyer since 2000. Boyer is both a director and a writer. The couple has two sons.
