How did Laura Bargatze meet Nate Bargatze?
Nate and Laura Bargatze had their initial encounter when both were employed at an Applebee’s in Tennessee in their early twenties. On The Greatest Average American stand-up special, Nate recalled that Laura stated,
“When I met him, he was a host and I didn’t think he was smart enough to be a server. So, yeah — we’ve got a little bit farther than I expected.”
After his stint at Applebee’s, Nate opted to take a job as a meter reader for a water company to receive a dependable paycheck. However, recalling his aspirations from when he was young, he chose to leave that job and journey to Chicago to try and make it as a comedian, with Laura fortunately behind him all the way.
“If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend that is going to be in the way, then you gotta choose,” Nate said on The Nateland Podcast.
Nate and Laura Bargatze had a long-distance relationship while he sought success in the comedy world. Laura was based in Tennessee, while Nate was in New York. When she traveled there in 2005, he asked her to marry him while they were on a horse-drawn carriage journey through Central Park.
They tied the knot on October 13th, 2006 – a date Nate later mentioned in The Tennessee Kid, jokingly pointing out it was a Friday the 13th.
As Nate’s career flourished, Laura stood fast. Whilst they were dating, she got her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Middle Tennessee State University, yet upon their move to Los Angeles in 2010, she switched to event planning.
In 2019, Laura set off on her career as a talent manager with Bargatze Enterprises and is now an executive producer of The Nateland Podcast.
Nate and Laura Bargatze proudly brought Harper into the world on July 9, 2012, which will make her 11 years of age in 2023. As an only child, she is the source of many of Nate’s gags. She even assists in introducing Nate before his Netflix shows, so she is a fundamental part of his stand-up comedy career.
