When Tory was eleven years old, his mother passed away from a rare illness. For Tory, this was a serious setback. After that, his father took on the role of a missionary and a preacher. His work required him to travel throughout the United States. Tory went everywhere with his father.
After relocating to Georgia, Tory carried on his rap career. He got to know Hakeem, who advised him to go by “Tory Lanez” as his stage name. Tory never fully bounced back from his mother’s passing. Moreover, Tory experienced additional emotional difficulties as a result of his father’s second marriage. In 2006, Tory relocated to New York, but his health did not get better. Later on, he returned to live with his grandmother in Toronto. But she refused to accept him. Tory was therefore homeless at the age of fifteen.
