Megyn Kelly, a former anchor for Fox News, criticised Taylor Swift for going to a comedy concert hosted by actor Ramy Youssef in support of humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The 52-year-old journalist was vehemently opposed to Swift appearing on the show, particularly since she hasn’t yet addressed the attacks of October 7 or the conflict that has ensued between Israel and Hamas. Swift’s ignorance was criticised by Kelly, who openly stated on her show that the “Miss Americana” star doesn’t “know anything.”
Taylor Swift Attends Gaza Fundraiser Comedy Show
Announcing the news on Instagram, Ramy Youssef stated that “ANERA, which provides humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza, will receive 100% of the proceeds for the remaining portion of the Ramy Youssef: More Feelings stand-up tour.”
ANERA stands for American Near East Refugee Aid, a nonprofit organisation that states it has “no political or religious affiliation” and mobilises money for immediate emergency help while “working on the ground with partners in Palestine (West Bank and Gaza), Lebanon, and Jordan.”
But the charity has been characterised as extremely political by Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor, which cites the organization’s “reports and newsletters” that “present a highly biassed view of the conflict.”
Megyn Kelly Slams Taylor Swift For Attending Gaza Fundraiser Comedy Show
Megyn Kelly angrily declared that Swift “owes Israelis and Jewish Americans an apology” for attending the event on the 12th December episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
“It was wrong to attend this event, so I hope they boycott her events until she issues it.”
Kelly added she wants Swift to be “held to account for this absurdity,” but podcast guest Andrew Klavan said he doubts the singer will face any backlash because she is “too powerful.”
“I guess all I can say about her being a likeable pop star is that I don’t look to my pop stars for political insight.” Swift’s highly publicised romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has grown her fan base. Klavan said, “I wish they would shut up and sing.”
Since ANERA has been characterised as “highly political, presenting a highly biassed view of the Israel-Palestine war, ignoring any Palestinian responsibility for hardship, and contributing to the demonization of Israel,” Kelly claimed that Swift’s appearance at the comedy show was no laughing matter.
However, because Hamas has been labelled a “terrorist group” by the US government, ANERA’s website emphasises that it “does not work with or even coordinate” with the organisation.
Megyn Kelly became enraged and said, “That is the group Taylor Swift thought it might be fun to raise money for, attend the fundraiser for. “Look up what they do to LGBT people in Gaza on Google. Taylor, check out the rights of women in Gaza.”
“Otherwise, do this when it comes to talking about this issue again,” said Kelly while motioning her hand that suggested Swift should shut up.
Megyn Kelly remarked of Swift, “You clearly know nothing.”
Taylor Swift’s Fans Reaction To Megyn Kelly’s Comment
Swift’s ardent fan base rallied around her right away, asserting that Swift “just went to a comedy show.”
Going to a comedy event does not imply that Taylor is actively in favour of Gaza. On X, someone else shared, “This is Ramy actively supporting Gaza.”
“What is this? Unless Swift is donating, the credit should only be granted to Youssef who is the person actually donating to people in Gaza,” a third fan chimed in.
Other X users pointed out that fellow A-listers who attended the comedy show, including Selena Gomez, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoë Kravitz, and Cara Delevingne, weren’t facing the same heat for it.
Tree Paine, Swift’s spokeswoman, did not answer The Post’s request for comment right away.
