Miller’s Girl saw Jenna Ortega stunning fans with her portrayal of Wednesday, naturally raising high expectations for the young talent. Recently appearing as one of the protagonists, could Jenna Ortega live up to her fans’ expectations? Here’s what we know from the fresh reviews just released for Miller’s Girl.
Jenna Ortega’s Miller’s Girl Failed To Keep Up The Mark, Fans Disappointed
Despite boasting a talented cast, Miller’s Girl struggles with a complicated plot that lacks clarity. The film received a severely low rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere. The thriller-comedy-drama also includes Black Panther actor Martin Freeman, whose talent was blatantly wasted away in the film, eventually resulting in low ratings.
This film follows 18-year-old Cairo (Jenna Ortega), a young girl who falls in love with her English teacher, Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman), after she is given a writing assignment. Miller had been treating Cairo differently owing to her writing skills, which he eventually decides to stop when he sees just how inappropriate it is.
When he finally rejects Cairo’s approaches, conflicts start to build up between them. After that, Cairo goes one step further and accuses her professor of having an affair with her other than just a teacher and student.
This film also suffered severe criticism, even before it premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 11, 2024. Written and Directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, Lionsgate released the film on January 26, 2024. The teacher-student dynamics, shown in a controversial light, has drawn criticism from fans. Fans expressed their concerns right after the trailer was dropped, criticizing the idea of a young girl romancing a man more than half her age.
Whilst the new movie Miller’s Girl with Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman does look good
I can’t help but feel a little salty. The amount of female students who are abused by their teachers and they write a story about a teacher being abused by his female student. Kinda bad taste

However, fans still had hopes for Jenna, with whom fans were impressed with her Netflix-released web series, Wednesday. Jenna kickstarted her acting career at the age of 10 with Rob (2012). Her notable roles in movies/series include Mary Ann in The Little Rascals Save the Day (2014), Katie Torres in Yes Day (2021), and many more.
With the release of Miller’s Girl, fans’ hopes were crushed once more, as all these multi-talents couldn’t change their minds. The fans were stuck to their original criticism of how improper the narrative of the film was, which ultimately failed to convey any clear message. In addition to that, the film’s genre is described as thriller-comedy, which the fans find funny because they couldn’t identify either a thriller or a comedy.
Fans are perplexed by the film since it is tough to agree or disagree with the plot. While it feels like a plot loosely created to show the man in a good light for once, and that it’s not always his fault, however, romanticizing the bond between an 18-year-old young girl with a man over half of her age isn’t something that the majority of the fans have taken on a positive note.
