The phenomenon of “Barbenheimer” has certainly taken over the globe. Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are the most anticipated movies of 2023. Margot Robbie’s Barbie promotional tour is in full swing and so is the buzz around Cillian Murphy‘s Oppenheimer. Ticket presales have begun and already over 20,000 people have blocked their schedules for a double movie date.
Barbenheimer To Have A Grand Opening Weekend As Per AMC
Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are promising their audiences a grand theatrical experience with each director delivering a new world. We will see Christopher Nolan taking us through a ‘banging’ nuclear explosion in his movie and Greta Gerwig‘s fantasy world of Barbie Land. The movies are slated to hit the theatres on July 21, 2023, worldwide and fans cannot keep calm. The Barbenheimer craze is spreading like wildfire across the world.
As per AMC Theatre‘s Elizabeth Frank, people have already bought over 20,000 tickets to watch the highly-anticipated movies of the year on the same day.
“More than 20,000 moviegoers have already made plans and purchased tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day is a great sign that the growing online conversation around seeing both of these incredible films is turning into ticket sales.”
Frank further added that they witnessed a 33% increase in the number of people who purchased tickets to see the movies in one day.
“Just as exciting, with 10 days to go until these movies open, this may only be the beginning. From Friday to today, we saw a 33% increase in the number of guests who decided to create their own double feature by purchasing tickets to see both movies on the same day. We are thrilled to see this momentum.”
It is interesting to notice that both movies are worlds apart from one another in genres, yet the excitement surrounding them both is like none other. While Barbie takes us through a comical journey of self-realisation, Oppenheimer promises a historical drama which is in stark contrast to its competition. Nevertheless, the Barbenheimer craze seems to keep growing stronger among fans.
Tom Cruise Is Also A Barbenheimer Fan
Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One has just hit the theatres this weekend. However, the 61-year-old is all geared up to catch Barbenheimer on its opening weekend. While speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald during the Australian premiere of his movie, Cruise expressed how he’s always loved watching movies on the “big screen.”
“I grew up seeing movies on the big screen. That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important. I still go the movies.”
He also shared his plans to watch both Barbie and Oppenheimer on their opening weekend.
“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday.”
Cruise also expressed his love for Barbenheimer and Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny by tweeting a series of images in which he can be seen holding tickets to the three movies in front of their posters.
This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters.
Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indy and one of the most iconic characters in history.
I love a double feature, and it doesn't get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie. pic.twitter.com/udWHHj4fAe
