Early Life & Education
Morgan Wallen was born on May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Tennessee. He was raised in the Knoxville region. His father, a preacher, was a fan of loud hard rock music, while his mother, a teacher, preferred contemporary Christian music.
From a young age, Wallen showed a deep fascination for music. At the age of three, he began singing in church, and by five, he had picked up the violin. As he grew older, he also became skilled at playing the piano and guitar. However, during his high school years, his focus shifted to baseball and he became the pitcher for the team at Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee.
Despite being talented enough to receive scholarship offers to play college baseball, a late elbow injury in his senior year led to the end of his pitching days. As a result, he started contemplating a music career.
Career
In February 2014, Wallen made an appearance on the renowned televised singing contest The Voice, where he performed “Collide” by Howie Day in a blind audition for the judges. Usher was impressed by Wallen’s rendition and recruited him for his team.
Despite being initially chosen by Usher, Morgan Wallen was later stolen by Adam Levine‘s team in the second Battle Round. However, Morgan was ultimately eliminated during the playoffs.
Wallen’s appearance on The Voice not only gave him national recognition but also led him to a creative partnership. Sergio Sánchez, a vocal coach from the band Atom Smash, was also a part of the show and the two began working together to create music that blended Wallen’s country sound with his rock & roll persona.
This collaboration eventually led to Morgan Wallen’s move to Nashville, where he and Sánchez formed a band called Morgan Wallen & Them Shadows, which unfortunately did not last long.
Once he established himself in Music City, Wallen acquired a manager, an agent, and a publishing deal with Big Loud Shirt Music. This resulted in his songs being picked up by various emerging artists.
In 2017, he teamed up with Florida Georgia Line for the song “Up Down,” which landed in the Top Ten on the Country Singles charts and received a gold certification. These tracks were included on Wallen’s first album, If I Know Me, released in April 2018.
The record went on to reach number ten on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and topped the U.S. Top Country Albums chart after staying on the charts for a record-breaking 114 weeks.
The Recording Industry Association of America granted the album platinum status in September 2020, which was later upgraded to double platinum in January 2022. The album, If I Know Me, also produced two successful singles, “Whiskey Glasses” and “Chasin’ You,” which both topped the U.S. Country Airplay chart and landed in the top 20 of the U.S. Hot 100 Singles chart.
Wallen released the gospel waltz “Don’t Think Jesus” in April 2021, which achieved the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and landed at number seven on the U.S. Hot 100 Singles chart.” Towards the end of the year, he teamed up with Lil Durk for “Broadway Girls,” which became a Top 20 hit in the United States and topped the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
At the beginning of 2022, Dangerous: The Double Album was honored with the Album of the Year award at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
In March 2023, a comprehensive collection of 36 songs was launched, featuring joint efforts with Eric Church, Hardy, and ERNEST. These tracks seamlessly blended elements of country, alternative rock, and hip-hop, while also offering a more intimate perspective.
The album, titled One Thing at a Time, dominated the top spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart for several months after its debut.
Personal Life
As of 2023, Morgan Wallen remains unmarried and does not have a confirmed partner. However, he welcomed a son named Indigo Wilder on July 10, 2020 with his former fiancée Katie Smith, whom he was in a relationship with from 2017 to 2019.
Despite their breakup, they maintain a close relationship as co-parents. Recently, Morgan has been rumored to be in a romantic relationship with country singer Megan Moroney.
