Childhood & Education
Nathan Fielder was born as Nathan Joseph Fielder on May 12, 1983, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was raised in a Jewish family by his parents Deb and Eric, who were both social workers.
Nathan went to Point Grey Secondary School and was part of the school’s improv comedy troupe, which also included Seth Rogen during his time there.
During his teenage years, Fielder was employed as a magician and became a part of the renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood. Once he finished high school, he joined the University of Victoria to pursue a degree in business and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in 2005.
After a year, Fielder relocated to Toronto and enrolled in a comedy program at Humber College. He held a job at a brokerage firm for eight months before realizing it wasn’t for him and transitioning to a career in comedy.
Career
Nathan was honored with the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award in 2006. The following year, his role as a writer on “Canadian Idol” caught the eye of “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” executive producer Michael Donovan, who brought him on board as a writer and field correspondent for the comedy show.
In 2010, Fielder was responsible for writing and directing several sketches featured on Comedy Central’s “Important Things with Demetri Martin.”
Additionally, he appeared in three episodes of the show. The following year, he acted as a creative advisor on Comedy Central’s “Jon Benjamin Has a Van” and also took on the role of a boom operator in 10 episodes.
In addition to appearing on “Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time” in that same year, he also provided his voice to characters on “Bob’s Burgers” in 2012 and 2015.
Nathan played the role of Bob Woodward on an episode of “Drunk History” in 2013 and later returned to the show as John Lennon in 2014.
From 2013 to 2017, he made appearances in three episodes of “Kroll Show” on Comedy Central and later gained his own show on the network.
Titled “Nathan for You,” the show ran for four seasons and a total of 31 episodes. In 2021, “The New York Times” recognized it as one of “The 21 Best Comedies of the 21st Century (So Far).”
Nathan reunited with Rogen in 2017 for “The Disaster Artist,” which received a Golden Globe nod for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. He also appeared alongside Andy Samberg in the satirical sports mockumentary “Tour de Pharmacy.”
In 2019, Nathan Fielder signed a contract with HBO to produce, direct, and star in a comedy series called “The Rehearsal.” The highly-anticipated series premiered in July 2022.
In 2020, the comedy series “The Curse” was acquired by Showtime. It was co-created and co-written by Nathan and Benny Safdie, known for directing “Uncut Gems.”
The show is a unique blend of genres and follows a newly married couple trying to have a baby while also working together on a problematic HGTV show, all while being plagued by an alleged curse. The series, which features Emma Stone, debuted in November 2023.

In 2007, Nathan and Sarah Ziolkowska crossed paths when she was a student at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. After their divorce in 2014, Ziolkowska continued her career as a children’s librarian.
