The NBA Draft took place the previous week, and everyone expected, prior to the draft, that Zion Williamson would go No. 1 overall to the New York Pelicans who had the first choice.

And that is exactly how it transpired- Pelicans chose first, and they did indeed go for Zion Williamson.
Now, of course, the question comes on how far Williamson can take the Pelicans? Will he be the one to make the franchise relevant, will be the one to make the Pelican’s ticket sales skyrocket? These are quite loaded questions.
Patience is the key
According to “Kannel & Bell” host and former MLB executive David Samson, the Pelicans fans must keep their patience and shouldn’t get their hopes up too much.
Samson was keen to stress the point that Williamson is not someone special, like Michael Jordan. He further added that while Zion Williamson was a very strong round one pick, he was not someone who could come in and make New Orleans relevant team again from marketing, revenue and in general NBA point of view. He is not capable of carrying an NBA team alone, Samson says.
Giannis Antetokounmpo ‘bigger and stronger’ than Williamson
Samson further explains to his co-host Danny Kannel on the episode that he thinks that Giannis Antetokounmpo, of the Milwaukee Bucks, is a better, bigger and stronger version of Zion Williamson. This was in contrast with Kanell, who felt that Williamson’s game and physique were similar to that of Lebron James.
They both agreed, however, that a lot more developments are to happen at the Pelicans, and only after they unfold can anything be said on the franchise’s prospects next season.
