Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers star center, won the NBA MVP award in 2023. He set this goal before the start of the 2018-19 season but failed to achieve it in that season and ended up in second position behind Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Philadelphia Stars had a promising performance in the 2017-18 season, and his effort was quite evident.
Before that season, Embiid played 63 games, and it displayed a lot about his overall fitness. About his goal to win NBA MVP in the 2018-19 season, he said:
My goal going into the offseason was to get better. I want to win the MVP. I feel like at the end of the day, it might be an individual award, but when I play better, the team also does. I feel like if I’m an MVP candidate or if I win the MVP, that means we are on another level.
During the 2018-19 season, Joel averaged 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 64 games. Though he didn’t win the MVP but had a decent performance and ending up at number 2 isn’t a bad stat.
Joel winning MVP award
Joel Embiid finally won his first NBA MVP in the 2023 season and became the first sixer to win that award after Allen Iverson in 2001. In this season JoJo averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 66 games.

Draymond Green trolling Joel Embiid
Despite winning the MVP award, Joel Embiid failed to save his team from collapsing against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Some fans did blame him for the loss as there was high expectation from the star player who just had won the MVP award. But the main thing that caught people’s attention was Draymond Green trolling Joel.
The Golden State Warriors star player Green took a jab at JoJo for choking in the playoffs. On Instagram, Green posted a video from a press conference of the 2018-19 season where Joel was seen trolling the Warriors for losing the 2016 NBA Finals. Green took the revenge after the Philadelphia Sixers lost in the playoff game against the Boston Celtics.
