The Bulls are doing this deal because of the valuable, unprotected draft pick they will receive in this trade. This is the best return they can get for the aging player.
DeMar DeRozan is a poor floor spacer and is aging. Moreover, since he has already peaked, he is not as good right now. This deal makes sense for the Bulls.

DeMar DeRozan could be a great fit for the No. 4 or even the No. 1 position. The Clippers can pair him with Kawhi Leonard or alongside Paul George.
Further, DeRozan is a great shot creator, adding an an extra skillset to the roster. Adding DeMar could help the Clippers in the upcoming season’s contention.
