In this article, we’ll explore the troubling reality that a few big names in the NBA have faced allegations of violence within their personal lives. These accusations have not only damaged their relationships but have also sparked a bigger conversation about how fame, power, and domestic abuse are connected.
Kevin Porter Jr
The latest domestic abuse scandal rose again after Kevin Porter Jr. Was charged with assault for attacking his girlfriend, Kyser Gondrezick. The whole instance took place at a New York hotel where Gondrezick phoned the police and Porter Jr. Was accused of and is being charged with attempting to strangle his girlfriend which left her with a broken bone.
Miles Bridges
In late June 2022, he was arrested in Los Angeles when his wife, Mychelle Johnson, accused him of domestic abuse. Bridges was on the verge of breaking through at the moment, but this act effectively ended his career.
Darren Collison
Collison was one of the most popular NBA players and played for the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings. He was also arrested for assault charges when an unknown victim filed a police complaint about the assault.
He was asked to render an apology as the case garnered much attention. Ultimately it didn’t affect his career much since the victim and the case details remained hidden.
Matt Barnes
Among his numerous arrests, Barnes was also arrested for domestic assault. He won the championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and had a very interesting career as he played for nine different teams.
He was arrested just after he signed up with the LA Lakers. Although the victim wasn’t revealed, many suspect her to be Gloria Govan, Matt’s girlfriend during the incident.
Metta Sandiford
The arrest of Metta Sandiford who is also known as Ron Artest is one of the most troublesome former NBA players. Most fans remember him from ‘Malice at the Palace’ but he’s also dealt with problems off the court.
The woman involved in the Artest issue was Kimsha Artest, Ron’s wife. Sandiford was arrested in March 2007 after the very infamous brawl. Metta Sandiford, the forward player for the Sacramento Kings at that time, was allegedly suspended by the team.
Why does the NBA take such an aggressive stance on substance abuse yet look the other way for domestic violence and violence towards women?
