Why would the Celtics let Malcolm Brogdon go?
This deal gives the Celtics options on the defensive wing. Both Covington and Morris would be a good replacement for Grant Williams. Covington’s floor spacing and versatile defending would make the Celtics consider him as a starter. They would also like to see off Payton, whose contract expires next summer. Getting assets in his return is a huge win for the Celtics.

Why would the Clippers like to sign Malcolm Brogdon?
The Clippers would get Payton Pritchard who is one of the finest point guards in the NBA at the moment. Also, the deal is not being done for him, Malcolm is someone they are actually doing it for.
