The Nets need to extend Nic’s contract next season but can they afford to pay him? They are not going all in for the championship. Should they bother themselves with paying a huge amount for a star? Ben Simmons’ contract is also causing trouble. One of them is needed to make the sacrifice for the other. The Nets would prefer trading Nic off and getting Green and McGee in return. Why would the Mavericks like to sign Nic Claxton?
The Mavericks have Luka Doncic on their roster. They have a good enough team to compete for the title. Nic is an elite player and probably somebody they need. Assets and draft capitals are spent by teams for a player of Nic’s caliber, there is nothing wrong with what the Mavs are doing.
