The Orlando Magics’ Markelle Fultz is in talks with the Toronto Raptors for a trade. The Raptors have recently lost the services of Fred VanVleet, who will be playing for the Houston Rockets after staying with the Raptors throughout his career.
A replacement is needed for their star. They have Dennis Schoreder who can not be trusted with the full-time role. A veteran would be a good option if they still look at themselves as contenders for the title. But if they want to enter into their rebuilding phase, they can go for Pascal Siakam, whose situation is tricky. Can they go for anybody else? Fultz can be their solution. It is most likely to be a swap trade landing Gary Trent to the Magics and Fultz to the Raptors. Why would the Raptors like to sign Markelle Fultz?
Fred VanVleet is the biggest and probably the only reason the Raptors are doing this deal. They are trying to rebuild and replace him at the same time. Pascal Siakam is obviously an option, and if they choose him, this deal will not happen. If they part ways with Siakam as well, which seems very likely, they can go for Fultz. Anyways, they have a good enough roster to compete.

Why would the Magics like to let Markelle Fultz go?
The most obvious reason for this trade is the number of guards the Magics have. One may ask why they are swapping one for another then, probably because they have a lot of playmakers and are looking for shooters. Trent would fix the issue and he would be an investment for the future.
