It was a gamble for the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Kyrie Irving in the NBA trade deal since a recent news report suggested that the player might agree to a long-term extension in the Mavericks.
Kyrie Irving’s Unpredictability and Free Agency Decision
In a press conference, Irving was not willing to talk about the contract extension with the media reporters until the season ends.
For a short period of time, it seemed like Kyrie would be a risky trade for the franchise to re-sign him in the summer.
However, as per a recent report by Marc Stein (NBA Insider) revealed that Kyrie is not open to signing a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. But if everything goes as planned, there is a high chance of a contract extension between Dallas and Irving.
Mavsland signals suggest that a multi-year deal between Irving and Dallas is certainly possible. However, there is also uncertainty as Irving is a free-agent-to-be, which creates pressure on Dallas.
Irving’s NBA Trade Deal Dispute and Off-Court Issues
Kyrie Irving and the Nets did not agree on how long and how much his contract should be. This is the reason why Irving wanted to leave the Dallas Mavericks.
Not just that, but Irving had some problems off the court, so he wanted a long-term contract to feel secure. However, most NBA teams don’t pay him a hefty amount for a long time, as he is not always reliable.
Dallas Mavericks’ Desperation and Trade for Kyrie Irving
Currently, the Dallas Mavericks are in a pretty bad situation as they have already lost Brunson to New York. Moreover, Luka Doncic doesn’t have enough good players with him on the team. He asked for better players in the month of January.
Mavericks had to do something as Doncic has agreed to Kyrie Irving’s trade which let them give away some of the important players who helped the Dallas Mavericks to get into the playoffs.
