The Houston Rockets are expected to trade Kevin Porter Jr. due to the domestic assault case. Porter Jr. is likely to face the consequences, and he will be out of the league very soon.
Could the Rockets trade KPJ to acquire Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Dallas Mavericks in a trade deal? Here is the potential trade scenario!
The Tim Hardaway Jr. Trade Proposal
- The Dallas Mavericks will receive guard/forward Kevin Porter Jr., the 2024 second-round draft pick (Houston Rockets), the 2024 second-round draft pick (Brooklyn Nets via Houston Rockets), and the 2025 second-round draft pick (Oklahoma City Thunder via Houston Rockets).
- The Houston Rockets will receive guard/forward Tim Hardaway Jr.
The Rockets anticipated the situation with Kevin Porter Jr. They knew it would be difficult to offer more minutes to him, so they offered him such a contract that they could trade him to any team anytime. Could they flip him for Tim Hardaway Jr.?
Could the Rockets Trade Kevin Porter for Tim Hardaway Jr?
Kevin Porter Jr. is one of the best catch-and-shoot players that the Rockets own. They can’t afford to lose him, but the situation will not let them retain him.
In this deal, the Rockets will receive Tim Hardaway Jr., another excellent and much-needed player for the Houston Rockets. He could be their primary catch-and-shoot player.
Furthermore, he is an excellent floor spacer, which the Rockets have been eagerly looking for.
Could the Mavericks Trade Hardaway Jr. for KPJ?
The Mavericks can not take a PR hit by acquiring Porter Jr. on their roster, so they probably won’t let him play or offer him a role on the roster.
The Mavericks are doing this deal because of the valuable second-round picks. They will receive 3 second-round picks in this trade, which will help them acquire quality and impactful players in the trade season.
I wrote about Tim Hardaway Jr. recently being ranked as one of the most overpaid players of all time by @hoopshype

Porter Jr. won’t get any second on the court by the Mavericks. They are only doing this deal for the second-round picks to fill up their draft capital.
