The Cleveland Cavaliers’ guard Donovan Mitchell is likely to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the upcoming season. Mitchell grabbed the headline a while ago when he was with the Utah Jazz, who finally traded him to the Cavaliers. A year later, he is likely to change his team again.
Mitchell is speculated to be interested in being part of a bigger market. It is very likely that he would not sign the extension with the Cavaliers, and before he leaves the team for nothing, the Cavaliers should try to get back some return for him. The Thunder have shown interest in signing him but would the 26-year-old leave for another small team? Here is all the information you need about the trade between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers involving Donovan Mitchell.
What would the Thunder offer for Donovan Mitchell?
The Thunder can offer Davis Bertans, Luguentz Dort, a 2024 top 4 protected first-round pick, and one first-round pick each from the years 2025,2026 and 2027 in exchange for Donovan Mitchell. They had signed Alexander, who was constantly linked to a few teams, and everybody thought he would leave, but he did not. Now, the Thunder would look to sign someone to share his burden, and Mitchell fits the profile of the player they are looking for.
“I don't think there's any chance he signs an extension there ever. And if it was up to me, I would trade Donvan Mitchell today.” 😳

Why would the Thunder like to sign Donovan Mitchell?
This deal would raise some questions, but it is going to fix nearly all the problems of the Thunder. Mitchell and Alexander can pair up, and Giddy would play the role of the 3 defensively. Mitchell is one of the best offensive players in the league, and his addition would give a huge boost to the Thunder.
Donovan Mitchell will more than likely decline his $37M player option for the 2025-2026 season. Which means that Cleveland will look to trade him before next season’s trade deadline. If Miami trades assets for Damian Lillard, they won’t have any assets to trade for Donovan https://t.co/o7FUpgrTjh

Why would the Cavaliers trade-off Donovan Mitchell?
Probably because Mitchell himself wants to leave and even though he was signed to make them a title contender, if he doesn’t want to stay, the Cavaliers can’t help it. The number of draft picks they are getting along with Bertans and Dort will improve the roster and might give them immediate results as well.
Are the Cavaliers ready to shift their title contention hopes to some other player? The Thunders are risking a lot on Mitchell. Would it be worth the risk? We’ll keep you updated.
