The San Antonio Spurs are looking to improve and develop their roster. For this, they are eyeing Nic Claxton from the Brooklyn Nets. Last time, they got lucky and acquired the big men Victor Wembanyama, who is one of the best players.
Now, the Spurs don’t want Wembanyama to go down, and as a result, they are considering acquiring Claxton from the Nets. Here is the possible trade proposal.
The Nic Claxton Trade Proposal
- The Brooklyn Nets will receive the guard-forward Reggie Bullock, the 2025 First-Round Draft Pick (Atlanta Hawks via San Antonio Spurs), and the 2026 First-Round Draft Pick (San Antonio Spurs).
- In exchange, the San Antonio Spurs will receive the center Nic Claxton.
Why Do the San Antonio Spurs Want to Acquire Nic Claxton?
The Spurs are already a strong team, and by acquiring the center player Nic Claxton, they would solidify their domination in the defense part as well. The Spurs already have Victor, who works as a rim protector for them, and Claxton could be used as a free safety.
The Spurs can use Claxton when they want to switch the defenders. They can switch Wembanyama with Claxton. This way, the Spurs can dominate the league by making their defensive side more aggressive.
Why Do the Brooklyn Nets Want This Trade Deal?
The Brooklyn Nets have financial motives to do this trade deal. They would trade Nic Claxton for assets by which they would invest in their roster to improve it further.
Claxton’s contract with the Nets is expiring soon, so the Nets will have to think about his extension. While they don’t want to let him go, they do have another choice, as they can’t afford him right now.

But Bullock will be a significant return they are getting in exchange for Claxton. On top of that, they will gain the 2 first-round draft picks that are unprotected, which can be a valuable draft capital addition for them.
