The Los Angeles Lakers are in a dire need of a third star-player after failing to land Kawhi Leonard. The duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis looks solid but they need another star to support them from the far side of the court. The Lakers have their eyes on various players and they have the required cap space to make a deal.

As per the latest reports, Carmelo Anthony is their next target. The veteran player has enough experience to balance the court along with James and Davis. Also, Lebron James is the one who is trying to get Melo in the Lakers team. Here are the reasons why the Lakers could make a deal with Anthony and how it affects their team roster.

LeBron James and Anthony Carmelo Friendship
Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are very good friends and started their career together. At one time, Anthony used to give out tips to James and made him the legendary player he is today. Anthony is a 10 times All-Star player, but his recent performance had made him useless for the Houston Rockets. He could not do much for the Rockets in a bid to support James Harden and Chris Paul.

Hence, Carmelo was planning to join the Lakers, but they were eliminated from the playoffs before it could happen. LeBron James knows how much talented Melo is and hence he is convincing the Lakers to sign a new deal with him. The Lakers could use someone experienced like Carmelo Anthony and also there won’t be any LeBron issues.
Lakers are making a Solid Roster
The Lakers are trying their best to find alternates for Kawhi Leonard and have signed a lot of players by the money saved. Danny Green and DeMarcus Cousins are signed by the Lakers on a cheaper salary cap. Also, the Lakers have re-signed Rajon Rondo, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale McGee.
It can prove out to be a smart move as team depth is necessary in case one of their top players gets injured. The only trouble for the Lakers is that most of their players are 30+ in age, and hence they need some young players. The upcoming NBA summer league would be a good chance to test their players and make changes if necessary.
