Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 release date might not have been confirmed officially but thanks to the show’s roaring success, it is all but given at this point.
Wednesday Addams is based on The Addams Family, a sitcom series that first aired two seasons between 1964-1966, an interesting live adaptation of the cartoon ‘The Addams Family” by Charles Addams.
The series was adopted many times in 1964-1966, 1998-1999, a movie in 1991, and the recently animated series in 2019. Each character has nuances, but the one that wins the most’s hearts must be the Addams Family’s eldest daughter, Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday Addams has been the inspiration for Goth girls around the world. Her hatred for color, her keen interest in sadistic activities, murder, and ever tormenting of her little brother Pugsley Addams is among her most likable traits. Netflix banked on this interest, created a show focusing on the oldest daughter Addams, and described it as a “coming of age” show.
Netflix delivers the show on a very indulging platter of eccentricity and aesthetics with a side touch of unforgettable dance movies, iconic goth fashion statements, and fantastic acting by the lead Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams). The show revolves around Wednesday trying to find clues as to who is killing and maiming people of Jerico.
Season 2 – release date
Productions for the show took place only for season 1. Considering the unfinished storyline and the twist at the end, viewers hope for a season 2.
The Co-creator of the series Alfred Gough talked about the possibility of expanding on the series. In an interview with screenrant, he was heard stating, “Miles and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses”. Millar is his fellow creator. The statement is about The Addams in general; it can mean that the franchise can elaborate on other members of the Addams family. But it is doubtful that the creators would end Wednesday’s story with suspense.
In an interview with Variety, Peter Friedlander ( Head of US & Canada scripted series ) said,
“It’s encouraging and exciting to see how much engagement there is. How much do people want to not only come to Netflix but to finish these shows and then talk about them? Engagement. That’s what we’re pouring all of our efforts into. It’s not just the dance; it’s people dressing up and buying makeup and wanting to look like Wednesday Addams. The resurgence, for me, it’s something that’s been in the culture for a long time — but never this pronounced. It’s something that we want to study and understand why this is such a phenomenon.”
Friedlander said when asked about a new season, “I have nothing to confirm at this time. I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that.”
Season 2 – cast
It would be disappointing if Jenna Ortega does not return as Wednesday Addams and her right-hand thing, played by Victor Dorobantu. The fame accumulated by these two for the perfect heat-touching roles is enough to see them reprise the role. With the two, Wednesday’s love interests may also return. Xavier Thorpe, played by Percy Hynes White, and Tyler, played by Hunter Doohan.
The rest of the cast members are :
•Enid Sinclair – Emma Myers
•Bianca Barclay – Joy Sunday
•Ajax Pertroplus – George Farmer
•Yoko Tanaka – Naomi J Ogawa
•Sheriff Donovan Galpin – Jamie McShane
•Gomaz Addams – Luis Guzmán
•Morticia Addams – Catherine Zeta-Jones
•Pugsley Addams – Isaac Ordonez
•Uncle Fester – Fred Armisen
Season 2, The plot
Season 1 spoilers ahead :
Wednesday discovered that her boyfriend Tyler was the monster and left not only Wednesday herself but also the viewers shocked. Not only that, but Wednesday also learns that her favorite teacher Ms. Thornhill controlled Tyler and left her double betrayed. Seeing the end, viewers are hoping that Tyler escaped Ms. Thornhill’s control and may return, as in Wednesday’s life, as a lover, friend, or foe.
When speaking to the digital spy, Duhan said:
” I do think he escaped at the end. When I read that on the page, I was so excited. I was like: ‘Come on, don’t be dead, don’t be dead. I think he was being controlled by Miss Thornhill. Then he had to go manipulate Wednesday to carry out their plan, and I think he did a pretty good job with it.”
Besides this, Bianca’s siren mother was also seen coercing Bianca to join their group to strengthen their call to join their cult-like group, “morning star.” There is potential to see her as the villain here.
The identity of the mysterious texter is one matter that needs to be clarified. Soon after Xavier gives Wednesday a new phone, she gets a bizarre, threatening text message with creepy pictures of herself.
The sender is not known, but the danger is the kind that will ignite Wednesday’s joyous soul. Additionally, it will undoubtedly get the plot for the second season to run.
