The 2020 movie Big Boys Don’t Cry is loosely based on a horrible true story.
It’s about a boy named Paul Connelly who was left on the street when he was just two weeks old.
Later, he is abused at St. Leonard’s Children’s Home in Essex. This is based on his own experience, which is shown in the movie.
From 1965 to 1984, the infamous institution was open, and since then, the terrible crimes that happened behind its doors have become public knowledge.
A source says that 3,000 children went through St. Leonard’s before it closed, and some of them were abused by more than one staff member.
Big Boys Don’t Cry jumps back and forth between Connolly’s childhood and his twenties when he gets out of jail and becomes a bouncer.
But when his childhood friend dies and the police start to look into it, he has to face his past.
This part of the movie is made up because Connolly’s real life as an adult was very different from what the movie shows.
Connolly never went to prison in real life. Instead, he became a boxer.
After that, he became a gym teacher and then a personal trainer for famous people.
After he learned to read at age 25, he wrote a best-selling memoir called “Against All Odds” and published it himself in 2010.
Michael Socha (This is England) plays Paul in Big Boys Don’t Cry, which has a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Since the movie came out on the streaming service on December 23, fans have been talking about it on social media.
