A New Superman on the Horizon
Superman’s iconic ‘S’ might be emblematic of hope, but lately, it’s David Corenswet, the face of the upcoming Superman: Legacy, who has been the topic of discussion and hope among the DC fandom. The reason? His uncanny resemblance to former Superman, Henry Cavill.
According to Just Jared, recent snapshots of Corenswet, sourced from Corenswet News on X, showed him walking with his team, noticeably more buff and sporting a beard. It’s hard not to draw parallels between him and Cavill, especially with this new rugged appearance. Social media was abuzz, drawing line-by-line comparisons, with many noting the similarities.
But these photos weren’t the first to catch attention. Earlier this summer, the Legacy actor’s robust frame was captured while he was on-set, not for a superhero flick but for a documentary. Taking on the role of both a cinematographer and executive producer, Corenswet was chronicling the life of the late artist, Jon Schueler.
Delay in Legacy’s Production?
While fans are eagerly waiting to see Corenswet don the red cape, the shooting for Superman: Legacy seems to be a bit in limbo. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes might push the shooting dates further down the calendar. While James Gunn, the director, aspired to start the film by early 2024, whispers are that the spring might see the cameras rolling.

Filling Cavill’s Shoes
David Corenswet isn’t just stepping into a new role; he’s taking up a mantle carried forth by Henry Cavill. With Cavill’s tenure as Superman ending post his Black Adam appearance, Corenswet’s portrayal becomes all the more significant. The excitement doubled when Rachel Brosnahan was announced as Lois Lane, promising a dynamic chemistry on screen.
Before landing this role of a lifetime, Corenswet was recognized for his role in the Netflix series The Politician. But now, he’s the focal point of a newly envisioned DC Universe.
James Gunn’s DC Vision
Superman: Legacy isn’t just another superhero movie. It’s the first in James Gunn’s revamped vision of the DC Universe. Termed as Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, it’s a fresh narrative slate under Gunn’s leadership. Alongside Corenswet and Brosnahan, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced. With the script receiving accolades even before shooting, the film promises to provide a unique perspective on Superman’s origins.
While Gunn finalizes the cast for the film, especially the roles of Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen, he’s also engaged in developing Creature Commandos, a series preceding Legacy.
Superman: Legacy promises to be more than just another superhero film. With a blend of nostalgia and novelty, it’s slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. The anticipation is palpable, and fans worldwide are waiting with bated breath to see Corenswet soar in the skies of Metropolis.
